Our Story

Jeff and Melinda Knight became Lead Pastors of The Rock Church on February 6, 2000, after the tragic loss of founding Pastors Joe and Linda Knight on Alaska Airlines Flight 261. After serving The Rock Church for 5 ½ years as Youth Pastors, both Jeff and Melinda were more than up to the task of becoming Lead Pastors. Their work since the death of Pastor Jeff’s parents has been featured in numerous television and print publications. In 2008, they became parents when they adopted their baby girl, Seven Addison.

Jeff and Melinda are both from Monroe, and continue to pursue the vision to inspire purpose in this region and surrounding cities. In order to do so, Jeff and Melinda aren’t afraid to get creative in order to connect people to Christ. Jeff has been a local professional race car driver, he’s authored a book (The Revved Life), and he and Melinda have recorded six CD’s.

Our Foundation, Promise and Purpose

Monroe is Where Our Story Began

When The Rock Church started in 1984, by Joe and Linda Knight (Jeff’s parents), it started with a simple idea; to inspire purpose in Monroe and the surrounding communities. And even though it’s outgrown the beginnings as a small Bible study in the living room of Jeff’s parent’s home, and even after Joe and Linda Knight passed away; the spirit and purpose of the church remains constant.

Rescue Regardless
There’s no question that we’ve all done things that could lead us to believe that God has discounted us from having a great purpose. Or, maybe we’ve been lead to believe that a church won’t accept us for who we are because of the mess that comes with us. There isn’t anything further from the truth. Regardless of your past or your present, your purpose and your life are redeemable – no matter what.

Inspire Purpose

God has a remarkable purpose for our region, for your life and everyone around you. That's why our purpose is simple; connect to Christ, give everyone a chance, never accept mundane living and live a life that inspires purpose all around us.

What We Believe

God

There is one God, Creator and Ruler of everything. He eternally exists in three parts: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Man

Man was created and made in the image of God, yet fallen and separated from him. Only through restoration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and life be obtained.

The Church

The Church is the composition of all those who have, by faith, been restored by the Holy Spirit and united together as the body of Christ, of which Jesus is the head. The Rock Church is a body of believers committed to do their part in God’s big plan. God’s vision for the church is to establish His kingdom and be His craftsmanship. We are to worship and glorify God, be conformed to Christ’s image, emulate the works of Jesus and make disciples of all nations.

The Bible

God’s Word is Truth. It was written by human authors under the influence, guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Scriptures are Divinely inspired, completely authoritative and free from error of any sort.

Salvation

Salvation is a free gift from God. Only those who receive Jesus Christ by faith are born of the Holy Spirit and become children of God. Man can never make up for his fallen and separated life by self-improvement and good deeds.

Holy Spirit

The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Jesus Christ, convict men of their need of Jesus Christ and restore the fallen believer by comforting, helping, guiding, empowering and indwelling the believer for Godly living and service.

Jesus Christ

Jesus is the Son of God. He is true God and true man, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He died on the cross, the complete and final sacrifice for our sin. He bodily arose from the dead, ascended into heaven, where at the right hand of God, He is now our Leader and Ambassador and is coming again a second time for the church.

Christian Living

Christian living is a life separated for God and perfecting holiness in the fear of God as an expression of Christian faith. The Christian life is believing in God’s promises, purposes, and power.

Eternity

Man will exist eternally. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence and man will either exist separated from God by sin, or restored in Christ by forgiveness. God gives man eternal life upon believing and calling upon the Lord Jesus Christ.
